Our June customer of the month writes to us from Princes Risborough in Buckinghamshire about their brand new gable front conservatory. Having dreamed of a room where they could enjoy the views and sounds of the outdoors, Mr and Mrs Chatterton wanted an affordable conservatory project and a reliable provider, so they approached ConservatoryLand to help bring their vision to life.

It was important that their new room let in as much natural light as possible while also making the best use of the available space. After discussing the different design options with our expert team — such as Edwardian and lean-to — Mr and Mrs Chatterton chose a gable front conservatory with a dwarf brick wall.

Our gable conservatories are elegant builds which maximise the available space and height. Not only do they allow plenty of natural light inside, but the gable front also gives the impression of more room. Read on to find out how Mr and Mrs Chatterton’s conservatory project turned out.

Before new conservatory build

With years of experience and plenty of successful conservatory builds under our belts, we’re experts in creating custom-made, long-lasting spaces. And our helpful experts were on hand to support Mr and Mrs Chatterton throughout the project. The team shared useful details such as time frames and costs, as well as provided insightful tips and ideas.

Mr and Mrs Chatterton chose to use our approved network of UK installers to help with the installation. But the couple were concerned the project would be hindered by their  new  patio. The team at ConservatoryLand assured them that the challenge would be no problem for our approved installers.

Our expertise gave Mr and Mrs Chatterton the confidence that ConservatoryLand was the perfect partner to help design their dream conservatory. Following final discussions around their customisation options, including doors and glazing, our designers created a conservatory mockup based on their preferences and specific requirements.

Building Mr and Mrs Chatterton’s Gable Front Conservatory

Having approved their brand new conservatory design, Mr and Mrs Chatterton’s project was underway. The first step for the approved installer was to prepare the area ready for the new conservatory. Mr and Mrs Chatterton opted for our unique ConservaBase system — an all-in-one base, floor and wall system custom-made to their specifications. A quick and easy-to-install option, this is ideal for both professional installation and self-assembly.

After the patio tiles were lifted and disposed of, our approved installer fitted the concrete pads ready for the steel base to be built.

And thanks to our fully-welded base, Mr and Mrs Chatterton’s conservatory would have solid foundations that didn’t bend when they walked on the floor. Next, the steel sections were bolted together and insulation sheets were installed into each section.

With the base secured in place, it was time to build the walls. Mr and Mrs Chatterton chose a dwarf brick wall in Old Millhouse with sandstone mortar — a brick finish that fitted seamlessly with the style of their home. Their entirely bespoke conservatory was starting to take shape!

As Mr and Mrs Chatterton wanted their new conservatory to match their semi-detached home, they chose white PVCu for the window frames, consistent with the frames in their property. At ConservatoryLand, we manufacture our frames from high-quality fully-sculptured PVCu profiles, designed for quick installation and built to last.

The couple preferred double doors at the front of their conservatory, so that the structure appeared open and airy. Double doors maximise the natural light entering the space, and Mr and Mrs Chatterton will be free to open them out into their garden during the summer months — increasing that sense of airiness. Once the walls were erected, the approved installer was ready to build the roof.

Mr and Mrs Chatterton chose self cleaning, solar control glazing for the roof. This option prevents heat build-up, so the space can be enjoyed all year round. Solar glass is also a very popular option at ConservatoryLand because it’s quieter than polycarbonate roofs in rain and hail. Mr and Mrs Chatterton were delighted they’d be able to enjoy the space, no matter what the weather.

The shape of the gable conservatory roof is elegant and high-vaulted, creating a stylish, triangular structure. This style of conservatory also amplifies the amount of light that enters and creates the sense of more space. Mr and Mrs Chatterton can now relax in a new light-filled room that brings them closer to nature and the outdoors, just as they had hoped. Finally, they added a few finishing touches, including white handles to match the rest of the build. Mr and Mrs Chatterton were over the moon that their conservatory looked like a natural extension to their home.
